Bangladesh won 2 silver and 2 bronze medals in International AI Olympiad
Bangladesh won two silver and two bronze medals in the International Artificial Intelligence (AI) Olympiad. More than 100 students from 25 countries of the world participated in this Olympiad held for the first time in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The results were officially announced on Thursday in the afternoon (local time).
Arefin Anwar, a student of St. Joseph's College and Misbah Uddin Inan, a student of Notre Dame College, won silver medals in the Olympiad. Apart from them, Abrar Shahid, a student of Notre Dame College and Rafid Ahmed, a student of Academia, got bronze medals. The scientific and practical phases of the Olympiad were held on September 9 and 11. Students are awarded based on the results of the two phases.
Professor BM Mainul Hossain, the team leader of the Bangladesh team from Riyadh and the director of the Institute of Information Technology of Dhaka University said, 'Going to this competition, I understand that other countries have started looking at Bangladesh in the world of Olympiad. Our students are proving their mettle by winning medals in various Olympiads, shining the face of the country. Many countries are curious and come to our team and want to know what method Bangladesh has solved.' Professor BM Mainul Hossain also said that regular necessary training and camps should be organized for the students. Then students can do better.
Silver medalist Misbah Uddin Inan said, 'I am very proud to have won the first silver medal for Bangladesh in the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad. An achievement for the country is very fortunate.' Arefin Anwar, another silver medalist, said that hearing the name of Bangladesh on the victory stage of the AI Olympiad held for the first time was a wonderful moment of pride.
The pre-selection and main round of Bangladesh AI Olympiad was held online and offline in May this year. Later, four members of the Bangladesh team were selected through the national camp held at the Information Technology Institute of Dhaka University with the selected students. The first Bangladesh Artificial Intelligence (AI) Olympiad organized by Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN) was sponsored by Reeve Chat, Brain Station 23, e-Generation, Intelligent Machines.
Apart from this, Prothom Alo, a2i and Bangla language project of ICT department and magazine partners were Kishore Alo and Bigyanchinta. Internet Society Bangladesh Chapter, Bytes for All, Bangladesh Robot Olympiad, JRC Board, World Robot Olympiad-Bangladesh, Banglar Math and Scratch Bangladesh were in collaboration.
